Having users sign into OneDrive manually on every new device adds friction and can delay access to files. Microsoft Intune can silently sign users into the OneDrive sync app using their existing Windows (Azure AD) sign-in, so the sync client is ready as soon as they open it.
This guide walks through creating a Settings catalog profile that turns on the OneDrive “silent sign-in” setting. Once the profile is applied, OneDrive uses the user’s Microsoft 365 identity without prompting for credentials—ideal for new device rollouts and Autopilot.
What You’ll Configure
- A Windows 10/11 configuration profile using the Settings catalog.
- The OneDrive setting: Silently sign in users to the OneDrive sync app with their Windows credentials.
No user action is required after the profile syncs; OneDrive will sign in with the currently signed-in Windows user.
Step 1: Create a New Configuration Profile
In the Microsoft Intune admin center, go to Devices → Configuration → Configuration profiles. Click Create → New policy. Set the platform to Windows 10 and later and the profile type to Settings catalog. Click Create, then Next.
Step 2: Basics
On the Basics page, enter a name (e.g. OneDrive – Silent sign-in) and optionally a description. Click Next.
Step 3: Enable Silent OneDrive Sign-in
On Configuration settings, click Add settings. Search for OneDrive. Under the OneDrive category, locate Silently sign in users to the OneDrive sync app with their Windows credentials, enable it, then click Next.
Step 4: Assign and Create
Configure Scope tags if needed, then click Next. On Assignments, add the groups that should receive this profile (e.g. All Users or a pilot group). Click Next, review the summary, and click Create.
After the profile reaches the device, the OneDrive sync app will sign in automatically with the user’s Windows account. Users can open OneDrive and start syncing without entering credentials again.
Wrap-up
You’ve enabled automatic OneDrive configuration with Intune by creating a Settings catalog profile and turning on the silent sign-in setting. Assign the profile to the right users or devices and allow time for policy sync; no manual OneDrive setup is needed on each machine.
